FESTIVITIES
The Tromba Festival May 1st of every year
The Tromba Festival is adapted from the Turumba of the Pakil, Laguna. Turumba is a Spanish word which means losing oneself in great fun. The people of Baras made their own version of it called "Tromba". The Tromba Festival in Baras was initiated by Hermano Luncio Evangelista, a physician, in the 1960s as a form of gratitude for his healings. Tromba was first known as "Pistang Paa ng Bundok" which is only performed along Nagpatong Street. Because of the fun and excitement it brought to the Baraseno people, the church embraced it which became the beginning of Tromba in the Town of Baras. This also served as the beginning of a month of devotion to the Blessed Virgin every May. The Tromba in Baras is divided into four parts: 1. The Holy Mass, 2. The Pagoda (Pagoda Parade) in Baras River, 3. Tromba in Ebb Tide "Kati" (Street Dancing) and 4. The Agape.
Great Feast of San Jose de Baras March 19th of every year
In the municipality of Baras, Rizal, one of the most distinct landmarks of the said place is it’s centuries old parish dedicated to the Glorious St. Joseph, the Chaste Spouse of the Virgin Mary. The parish became the center of the devotion to St. Joseph, not only in the town but also in the Province of Rizal as devotees flock his shrine for centuries. The devotion to San Jose de Baras continues to thrive in Baras as it became a pilgrim site in the province of Rizal for centuries. The Obreros de San Jose de Baras was established in 2019 to help further propagate the devotion to St. Joseph in the realm of the shrine and other parts of Rizal and in the country. The Rosary of St. Joseph and other devotions associated to him are regularly prayed in the shrine. The Feast of San Jose de Baras is celebrated much every March 19 as a festive town fiesta. **Credits are given to Mr. Khen Dinozo for the pictures above
